Insider Restaurant Tip of the month October presented by Top10 Vienna: Fuhrgassl Huber
The sunny October days, especially at the beginning of the month, were just perfect for a visit to one of Vienna's Heurige, (the Austrian word for typical wineries). Heurige in Austria are typical, mostly family-owned restaurants serving authentic Austrian food such as "Schnitzel", "Schweinsbraten" (pork roast) and much more. The authentic dishes are accompanied by regionally produced wines and non-alcoholic drinks, many of them home-made as well (excellent grape juice).
In fact Vienna is the only capital in the world that produces enough wine to provide the city. Austrians are very proud of their "Heurigen" culture. Hence you will encounter more locals than tourists at Viennese "Heurige". When visiting Vienna though, we strongly recommend to visit a "Heurige" to indulge in the Austrian culture. One of Vienna's most traditional and popular Heuriger is Fuhrgassl Huber,
located in the 19th district of Vienna, one of the most expensive neighborhoods in the city. Its charming guest garden invites for a cozy afternoon with delicious authentic food and great wines. We spent a few late summer days in the backyard of Fuhrgassl Huber
enjoying great food and drinks. You can take a short walk through the vineyards upfront to get a better taste of the Austrian "Heurigen" culture and enjoy a pretty nice view as well.
At a typical "Heurige" you have to order your food at the counter yourself, which gives you a better idea of what they serve. A lot of the dishes are neatly displayed in windows, quickening your appetite. The most typical dishes are the "Wiener Schnitzel", "Schweinsbraten" and home-made spreads and salads, such as egg-salad, paprika spread ("Liptauer") and many more. Just order a little bit of everything for a culinary journey through Austria. Don't forget to add on some of the best Austrian desserts afterwards, such as "Apfelstrudel", "Topfenstrudel" and many more home-made cakes. For drinks, you will be asked at your table and your order will be brought to you - try regional wines and home-made grape juice. Fuhrgassl Huber
is not just one of the best "Heurige" in Vienna, but also one of the best restaurants in Vienna. The restaurant offers best quality food and drinks 7 days a week. The atmosphere in the vineyard-like garden is unique and a wonderful experience for tourists as well as for locals. We recently took friends from the United States to Fuhrgassl Huber
and they couldn't believe how pretty and charming it is. Also the food we had was as authentic as it can be and all tasted really excellent.
We declared Fuhrgassl Huber
as our Insider Tip of Tip of the Month October!
The "Heurige" are part of the Austrian and Viennese culture and an absolute highlight for many tourists. Fuhrgassl Huber excels by serving amazing food for reasonable prices. Well, yes its fantastic location and cozy guest garden add to its charm. Fuhrgassl Huber should definitely be on your food bucket list when visiting Vienna.
